 My Thoughts On Painting My name is Angel Mercado. I am an inspired painter, living in beautiful central Indiana. I was born in Chile, where I spent the first twenty years of my life. In 1980, I moved to Indiana and over the years it has become my home. I studied at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. During my eight years of college, I took several art courses, but never painting classes. It wasn’t until the mid 1990’s when I became more consciously aware of my given gift of painting. I believe that painting is a very special gift I have received. After many unexpected turns, life has taken me through a beautiful, sad and happy trail of memories. Through my sadness, a beautiful bloom of many colors has slowly been emerging through me; emerging from the wisdom from experiencing life. I believe that through this wisdom, life is being revealed to me through the only world that I can relate to; the world of painting. It brings energy, passion, lights and colors. It brings sense and healing into my life. Most important of all, it always brings me back to my center. Life, as it unfolds, is nothing more than a trail of memories that I have acquired from my daily experiences. What I will do with the knowledge of my experiences is where I am today, and where I will be tomorrow. The key to my success is to keep spiritually sound and always be persistent. I can never stop believing in my dreams. This is the belief that fuels my desire to always strive to do better, at capturing creation on my canvases. This is the reason why I keep on doing what I do. Without that belief, without the dream and persistence, I know that I would not have the discipline to paint like I am painting today. Learning how to observe the seasonal changes in nature, has helped me to develop my senses as an artist. I see how nature slowly changes in front of my eyes when I paint on location , and that tells me that I must also take time to learn and evolve. Nature is very complex and always changing, making our tasks as painters much more challenging. When I use my keen senses, as a painter, is when creation reveals it’s self to me. When I do a painting that I feel good about, that is when I know that I am developing my senses as an artist. |
